Over the past few months, Penn Waste employees have seen an increased volume of household hazardous waste in our waste and recycling collections. Household hazardous waste can encompass many different materials that you may have sitting in your garage, your kitchen or anywhere else in your house. In this post, we are going to focus on three different materials, and give you some tips for proper disposal of these materials.
We will be focusing on Batteries, more specifically rechargeable batteries, Pool Chemicals, Live Ammunition and Hot Ashes. All of these materials should be handled with discretion and not disposed of in your regular trash (unless noted below) or recyclable collections.
Monday, October 9th, 2017: All Penn Waste routes will be operating on schedule on the Columbus Day Holiday.

York County residents may partake in the York County Solid Waste Authority’s free Residential Electronics Recycling Program. Beginning October 2, the program will relocate to the Small Load Drop-off Facility at the York County Resource Recovery Center. Electronics will be accepted Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4 pm and on Saturday from 8 am to Noon.
Residents should enter the York County Resource Recovery Center located at 2651 Blackbridge Road, and proceed toward the scales. A worker will confirm delivery of electronics only and provide a placard to the resident enabling free delivery. Residents will then follow “Public Drop-off” signs to the Small Load Drop-off Facility. Please show the electronics placard to the Small Load Drop-off Facility attendant who will direct residents to the electronics off-load area. After the electronics have been unloaded, residents will be directed to the designated exit for the Resource Recovery Center where the placards will be returned.
